Wolf Lake First Nation (WLFN) is one of ten communities representing the Algonquin Nation. The Wolf Lake First Nation does not have a reserve, despite having made numerous requests over the years. The WLFN is an Algonquin First Nation community in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Quebec, Canada. The WLFN's traditional territory includes the upper Kipawa and Dumoine River drainages, and extends to the Ottawa River.

In this short documentary from award-winning filmmaker Mike McKay, we explore the importance of hunting to Indigenous people. Before contact, WLFN ancestors followed a seasonal routine based on their relationship with the land. In the winter, families hunted in their territory, and in the spring they would gather at strategic locations to celebrate and fish.

Today, hunt guides Chad McKenzie and his daughter Kelsea McKenzie show how they have passed on their hunting traditions to youth particularly young women. Melissa Robinson, the Community Coordinator for WNFN discusses the hunting and fishing trips she has organized that allow Algonquin youth reclaim their Anishinaabe identity – to learn the essential skills of their ancestors. They have succeeded in fostering a sense of community, confidence and pride in Anishinaabe youth and the project continues to grow year to year.
