Hayley is off to Kamloops, known for merfolk sightings in lakes and rivers. Global sailors and pirate legends include merfolk, mythological beings that have the upper body of a human and the tail of a fish. At the Banff Trading Post Haley sees their mysterious merman and hears about the Stoney legend of a Lake Minnewanka merman. Next, she meets with Erin Vieira from the Shuswap Watershed Council. This watershed drains into Little Shuswap Lake, on to the South Thompson River, west to Kamloops, and on to the Fraser, an important habitat for Pacific salmon. In Kamloops she meets with Ed Jensen, Secwepemc knowledge keeper and artisan, who tells her about the water people or trout people who are said to live in the local lakes.
