Sioux Valley Dakota Nation in southwestern Manitoba is the largest Dakota community in Canada, founded by 19^th century political refugees. The community has a strong culture of self-governance and connection to traditional ways. They are proud to be a non-treaty nation. Community leaders Koda, Helena and Travis are addressing social issues like substance abuse and mental health through land-based programs, cultural teachings, and equine therapy, particularly for residential school survivors. This resilient community is striving to revitalise their culture, heal from trauma, and build a thriving future for the next generation.
