Drew travels to Alberta’s grasslands to witness a unique bison herd restoration by the Blackfoot on the Blood Reserve. They practice sustainable grazing, and the buffalo reinvigorate the soil and increase biodiversity as they roam, also reviving Blackfoot culture. Elder Leroy Little Bear describes the buffalo as a keystone species and sings a traditional song to the buffalo.

On the Eskasoni First Nation, Cape Breton, Mi’kmaw elder Albert Marshall describes two-eye seeing, a revolutionary philosophy – combining Indigenous wisdom with western knowledge for sustainable living. Architect Richard Kroeker incorporates traditional wisdom in his housing designs, including woven walls and earthen roofs. His Indigenous-inspired designs use locally sourced materials, changing architecture world-wide.

In The Pas, Manitoba, the Opaskwayak Cree Nation has a high-tech, vertical Smart Farm greenhouse garden providing local, sustainable produce and food security during a frigid winter. Grown with no pesticides or herbicides, these fruits and vegetables are building a healthier community on a reduced carbon footprint.
