In this episode of "This is Indian Country," host Ruth-Ann Thorn explores the vibrant Native culture of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The journey begins with Chef Brian Yazzie, who found purpose in cooking at the Native center, serving elders and inspiring youth to heal through food.

Next, we meet musician Collin Monetti at “powwow coffee,” where his blues are influenced by the powwow drum from his reservation. In downtown Minneapolis, we visit the former Dayton's luxury department store, now home to the Native Roots Trading Post. Director Robert Pilot has transformed the space into a hub for Native art, featuring interviews with photographer Joseph Allen, artist Kent Estes, and dancer/designer Misko Chapman.

The episode concludes with Chef Sean Sherman, the Sioux Chef, whose James Beard award-winning restaurant, Owamni, highlights pre-colonial ingredients and reconnects people with indigenous traditions. Ruth-Ann showcases these prominent figures, highlighting the rich tapestry of Native culture thriving in the Twin Cities.
