The four leading members of Woke Studios debrief about the jam session from the previous episode and discuss the importance of community and safe spaces for artists to create freely. Following the discussion, they each dive into their artistic journeys and the elements that brought them together.
T. Chandy, a recording artist, producer, and sound engineer, details how his Sri Lankan roots inspire him as an artist and how he merges traditional Sinhalese sounds with Hip-Hop and Afrobeats. Banggz, a recording artist and producer from Nigeria, describes his unconventional path as a Hip-Hop and Afrobeats artist as a form of rebellion against the status quo and how support from his friends and family drives him to be a better artist. Kenza Cardot, a model and creative director, explains how she tells unique and hopeful stories through movement and fashion and how music influences her creative direction. Finally, KAR33M, a recording artist and the founder of Woke Studios reminisces on his upbringing in Nigeria, the musical influences he had growing up, and how he continues to sustain himself as a musician through his entrepreneurial work at Woke Studios.
The episode concludes with the Woke Studios team being awarded the Fela Kuti Afrobeat Innovation Award presented by the Michaëlle Jean Foundation.
