The Mohawk community of Kahnawake, located just outside Montreal, worked to promote food sovereignty, sustainability, and healthy fitness during the COVID-19 pandemic. Three individuals – John, manager of Kahnawake CrossFit, Karina, founder of a protein ball business, and teacher Raven, promoter of the Mohawk language and culture, have taken different approaches to empower their community and reclaim their sovereignty.
