Situated in the hottest place in Canada, the Kanaka Bar Indian Band know firsthand the rising threats of climate change. Sustained by salmon for countless generations, a warming Fraser River is impairing the annual salmon run. Hotter, drier summers add pressure on fresh water resources and increase the risk for forest fires. They’re adapting through sustainability initiatives designed to mitigate the effects of climate change. Innovative approaches to water, food, clean energy independence and resource security are now garnering national praise.

Power to the People is a series that discovers how indigenous people, values and wisdom are guiding the way to a sustainable, clean energy future. Thirteen half hour episodes deliver emotive, indigenous inspired stories that demonstrate how renewable energy is empowering communities towards a post carbon future.
