Geothermal energy is generated using heat stored below the earth’s surface. Caretakers of Long Beach, Tofino, and the Clayoquot Sound, the Tla-o-qui-aht Nation created a Tribal Parks program to promote a conservation-based economy. They are harnessing renewable energy through a geothermal heating system, cost effectively heating and cooling their buildings. Revenues are re-invested in the community, and the Nation is now exploring the potential of a larger scale geothermal energy electricity project.
Power to the People is a series that discovers how indigenous people, values and wisdom are guiding the way to a sustainable, clean energy future. Thirteen half hour episodes deliver emotive, indigenous inspired stories that demonstrate how renewable energy is empowering communities towards a post carbon future
